Global Outlook 2026: Rebooting Democracy for a New World Order
The Global Outlook takes place during Arendalsuka, Norway’s biggest political and societal festival offering over 2,000 seminars and events over five days. It is attended by Norwegian activists, policy and decision makers from civil service, business and politics. Entry is free for all arrangements.
Theme 2026:
Democracy is in decline. For the first time in modern history, the number of autocratic regimes has surpassed the number of democracies. In the past year alone, 45 countries have moved toward authoritarianism, while only 19 have taken steps toward democracy. Today, 71% of the world’s population lives under authoritarian rule.
This dramatic shift signals the emergence of a new world order – one that challenges the global institutions built after World War II to promote peace, cooperation, and democratic values.
Global Outlook 2026 explores how we can revitalize democracy and reimagine global governance for a more just and sustainable future.
Program:
Opening keynote: Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Norway
Moderator: Anita Pratap
The program is subject to ongoing updates.
Global Outlook Norway 2026 is hosted by Eyde-klyngen, GCE NODE, UiA, Arendals Fossekompani and GARD.
