New cooperation between Norway and USA on critical minerals
Glencore Nikkelverk has entered into an agreement with the USA to supply critical raw materials to strengthen the circular value chain.
It's about nickel and cobalt. Helene Falch Fladmark, head of the Eyde Cluster, and Nils Gunnar Gjelsten, managing director of Glencore Nikkelverk, are interviewed by NRK Sørlandet.
-When we have extracted materials from the ground, it is important that we use them for as long as we can. Their focus on recycling is very new, and we are very advanced in that area in Norway, having already mapped all side streams. We believe the USA can learn from us in that regard, says Helene Falch Fladmark, who believes such an agreement with the USA could benefit the entire process industry.
-We are an important source of critical raw materials for the USA, and we only wish to expand that, says Gjelsten in the news segment.
-The side stream mapping that Eyde-klyngen was tasked with by the government in 2020, where we have established a database, turns out to be unique in Europe. We believe this work could be of interest to the American materials industry—perhaps there is potential for collaboration, says Helene Falch Fladmark.
